{Friday Five} Books I've Read Lately and Loved

I've been making a big effort to fit in more time for reading in the past year. Last year I was awful about it. So awful that it took me 3 months to read The Great Gatsby (it's a 98 page book...). I kept wishing I had more time to read, but I wasn't following through by prioritizing the time to actually fit it it. I finally realized that if reading was important to me, I needed to start acting like it! This year I started reading during my lunch breaks and I love it. It's the perfect mental break from teaching and it really allows me to take my mind off of school for that short amount of time and reset myself for the afternoon. Here are some of my favorite books I've read recently:

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's easily one of my favorite books I've ever read and I can't say enough good things about it. It follows multiple story lines and jumps between time periods and settings that tinclude Rome, LA, and Seattle. I may or may not have given it extra brownie points for mentally taking me back to the cliffs of Cinque Terre and my study abroad travels.

Okay, so to be fair I'm still reading this one, but I'm really liking it. It's a LONG book (771 pages to be exact) so I was a little wary to pick it-up, but I'm glad I did. It's a really interesting book that deals with a young boy's struggle with losing his mom and I find myself reading it way more quickly than I do most books.

A captivating story with fantastic writing. It introduced me to worlds I never knew about and left me wanting to take writing classes.

Written in a series of "Dear Abby" style Q&A's, but with the most honest and most helpful responses you've ever read. I found myself annotating the book like I was back in my AP english classroom because I came across so much that I wanted to be able to come back to and re-read. I recommend keeping this book on your bedside table and reading an entry whenever you need some food for thought.

This book hooked me from the very beginning with its delightful yet flawed characters. I became even more of a fan when I reached out to Jojo Moyes about my misprinted copy and her office personally sent me a replacement... and a hand written note.

Are you a bookworm? When do you manage to find time to read? Are you a bed-time reader like me or do you take your books with your morning coffee? Do tell!

xxo, Kristen

p.s. if you have any book recommendations I'd love to hear them! I'm always looking fore more.
